Independent third-party analysis — where the testing laboratory is contracted separately from the manufacturer — is materially stronger evidence than an in-house certificate, for the straightforward reason that the party reporting the result is not the party selling the material.
Interpretation matters as much as presence. HPLC purity describes the proportion of UV-absorbing material eluting as the target peak; it is not a mass balance, and on its own it does not establish that the vial contains what the label says. Identity is established by mass spectrometry. Water content tells you how much of the vial's mass is water rather than peptide, which is why two vials with identical stated purity can differ in actual peptide content. The three figures are read together, or the headline number tells you less than it appears to.
The final check is the one most often skipped: confirm that the batch number printed on the vial or lot label matches the batch number on the certificate you were given. A published independent report is evidence about a specific lot. If your vial carries a different lot number, the report is about somebody else's material.
Storage in an Andalusian climate
Coastal Málaga province regularly runs above 30 °C from June through September, and last-mile delivery vehicles are not temperature-controlled. This worries people more than it should for sealed lyophilised material and less than it should for everything after that. Freeze-drying removes almost all water from the peptide, which is exactly why reference standards are shipped as dry powder rather than in solution — dry material tolerates short ambient excursions in transit comparatively well.
The tolerance ends at reconstitution. Once solvent is added, the material should be held at 2–8 °C, aliquoted if it will not be used quickly, and treated as short-dated. Repeated freeze–thaw cycling does more damage to peptide integrity than steady refrigeration, so the common instinct to shuttle a single vial in and out of a freezer is usually counterproductive. Two smaller practical habits matter in this climate as well: let refrigerated vials return to room temperature before opening, so that condensation forms on the outside of the glass rather than inside it, and never leave a delivery sitting in a parked vehicle or a sunlit reception in July.
Regulatory position in Spain
Research peptides are not authorised medicinal products in Spain. Medicines authorisation runs through the Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios (AEMPS), and material supplied as a laboratory reference standard falls outside that framework. It is supplied for in-vitro and laboratory research use only — not for human or veterinary administration — and nothing on this page should be read as suggesting otherwise.
