Mijas Pueblo, Las Lagunas and Mijas Costa

Mijas is one of the largest municipalities on the coast by area and, like Benalmádena, it is split into distinct nuclei that behave very differently. Mijas Pueblo is the mountain village at roughly 430 m altitude on the slopes of the Sierra de Mijas. Las Lagunas is the dense inland town bordering Fuengirola, where most of the municipality's permanent population actually lives. Mijas Costa is the long coastal strip running west from Fuengirola towards Marbella.

Mijas Costa is where the municipality's urbanisation sprawl sits, and it contains several developments large enough to be treated as places in their own right — La Cala de Mijas, Calahonda and Riviera del Sol all have their own area pages here. These are the addresses where the urbanisation name, phase and block matter more than the street.

The altitude difference between Pueblo and Costa is a real handling consideration in winter as well as summer: the village is noticeably cooler and can be fog-bound, while the coastal strip stays mild. Neither affects a sealed lyophilised kit materially, but it does affect courier scheduling on the mountain road.
